The KENNAMETAL 1096288 is a right-hand MVJN-style indexable turning toolholder built for negative-rake external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It belongs to the Kennametal Kenloc series, which uses a clamp-and-screw insert holding method to secure VN..33. style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall, and the overall length is 5 inches. This holder is machined from steel and provides the rigidity and repeatability that production turning applications demand. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments rely on this style of holder for consistent insert indexing and secure clamping under interrupted or continuous cutting loads.
This toolholder is suited for external turning on both manual engine lathes and CNC turning centers where a right-hand cutting direction is required. The MVJN geometry delivers a 3-degree lead angle, positioning the insert for efficient chip flow and reduced radial forces during turning passes. The Kenloc clamping system locks the insert firmly against the pocket seat, making it appropriate for roughing and finishing passes in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. It is a single-use toolholder with no coolant-through capability, intended for standard flood or dry cutting environments.
Designed to accept VN.. 332 inserts (complete insert compatibility designation). Insert holding method is clamp and screw. Verify insert pocket geometry and shank clearance against your machine turret or tool block before installation.
Installation is typically performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the lathe or turning center spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Torque the Kenloc clamp screw using the appropriate Kennametal torque key supplied with the holder or insert kit. Confirm the toolholder seats squarely in the turret station and that the cutting edge height is on-center before taking a test pass.
