The KENNAMETAL 1096272 is a left-hand MDQN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built on the Kenloc platform, this steel toolholder features a 1 inch by 1 inch square shank and an overall length of 5 inches. It runs a negative 7-degree rake angle and a 27.5-degree lead angle, which positions the insert for controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces on medium to heavy turning passes. The clamp and screw insert holding method provides rigid, repeatable insert seating. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this toolholder in production and job-shop environments.
This toolholder is suited for external turning, facing, and profiling operations on lathes equipped with square-shank tool blocks or gang-style turrets. The 1 inch by 1 inch shank fits standard APTA and OD turning tool stations common in both manual and CNC applications. With a head length of 1.37 inches and a back-of-bar to cutting-edge distance of 1.25 inches, it provides consistent tool centerline alignment in standard-height tool posts. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant must be supplied externally.
Designed to accept DN..43. series inserts (complete compatibility code DN.. 432) with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Insert holding is achieved via the Kenloc clamp and screw method. No other specific machine or system compatibility was provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret or tool post. Ensure the shank bore or pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the toolholder. Torque fasteners per the machine tool manufacturer specifications and verify tool centerline height before returning the machine to service.
