The KENNAMETAL 1096205 is a left-hand MTGN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative-rake external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built on the Kenloc clamping platform, it uses a clamp and screw holding method to secure TN..43. series triangular inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. The steel shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 6 inches, making it a standard square-shank toolholder suited to common QCTP and gang-slide setups. The negative 5-degree rake angle suits interrupted cuts and hard or abrasive workpiece materials common in production turning environments.
This toolholder is intended for production machining environments where consistent, repeatable insert indexing is required. It is a left-hand configuration, meaning the cutting edge faces right when viewed from the insert end, and material feeds from left to right in a conventional turning setup. Machinists working on CNC turning centers, engine lathes, and turret lathes will find it suitable for OD turning, facing, and profiling passes where a negative-rake insert geometry is specified. The Kenloc clamping system provides rigid insert seating, which helps maintain dimensional accuracy across high-volume runs.
Designed to accept TN.. 432 series triangular indexable inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. Confirm insert geometry and tolerance class against the Kenloc insert compatibility chart before ordering inserts separately.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before mounting or changing inserts, ensure the machine is powered down, the spindle is locked, and all motion axes are at a safe rest position. Torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification found in the Kenloc tooling manual — do not estimate clamping torque by feel. Confirm shank clearance and tool overhang against the machine turret or tool block specification before taking the first cut.
