The KENNAMETAL 1096184 is a neutral-hand MSDN-style indexable turning toolholder from the Kenloc series. It accepts SN..43. class inserts and holds them using a combination clamp and screw insert-holding method. The toolholder features a negative rake angle of -7 degrees, making it well suited for heavy interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials where a strong cutting edge is required. The 1 inch by 1 inch square shank fits standard OD turning setups, and the 6 inch overall length provides adequate clearance and rigidity for most lathe configurations. Coolant-through capability is not included. This toolholder is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This toolholder is designed for use on CNC and manual lathes performing external turning operations. The MSDN style positions the insert at a neutral hand orientation, allowing straight turning passes without side lead angle bias. With a 0.5 inch back-of-bar to cutting edge measurement and a 1.39 inch head length, it fits standard toolpost and turret configurations common in both light production and general-purpose turning. The Kenloc insert-holding system provides rigid, repeatable insert seating, which is important when running negative-rake inserts at higher chip loads.
Compatible with SN.. 432 series indexable inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle diameter. Designed for use in standard OD turning setups on CNC or manual lathes that accept a 1 inch x 1 inch square shank toolholder. Refer to the manufacturers catalog number MSDNN164 for cross-reference verification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or toolpost is in a safe indexed position before mounting or removing the toolholder. Torque the toolpost or turret clamping screws per the machine tool manufacturers specification. When seating the insert, clean the pocket and seating surfaces before clamping to ensure accurate tip height and repeatable positioning.
