The KENNAMETAL 1096117 is a right-hand indexable turning toolholder in the Kenloc series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It uses a clamp screw holding method to secure CN-style inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, applying negative rake geometry for stable, predictable cutting performance. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 5 inches, making it a standard-profile holder suited for a wide range of turning applications. The toolholder body is constructed from steel for rigidity under interrupted cuts and continuous turning cycles. Machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this holder in production and job shop environments.
This toolholder is configured for right-hand cutting passes and fits the MCRNR164C style designation, placing it in external longitudinal and facing operations on metalworking lathes. The Kenloc clamp screw system provides solid insert clamping without over-constraining the insert seat, which supports repeatable indexing. The holder does not include coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for flood coolant or air-blast setups where internal coolant delivery is not required. Typical applications include steel, cast iron, and general-purpose alloy turning where a robust, standard-profile holder is preferred.
Designed for use with CN-style inserts, complete insert compatibility designation CN.. 432, with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. Fits standard lathe tool blocks and turrets accepting a 1x1 inch square shank. Refer to insert manufacturer specifications to confirm grade and geometry selection for your specific workpiece material.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret or tool block. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before indexing or installing a new insert. Tighten the clamp screw to the torque value specified in the Kennametal Kenloc tooling documentation for the CN insert size used.
