The KENNAMETAL 1096097 is a left-hand MCLN-style negative rake indexable turning toolholder designed for use on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built on the Kenloc series platform, it accepts CN..43. style inserts and holds them via a clamp and screw mechanism that provides rigid, repeatable positioning under heavy cutting loads. The shank measures 1.25 inches wide by 1.25 inches tall with an overall length of 6 inches, making it a standard-shank toolholder suited to medium to large lathe turrets. The 5-degree lead angle influences chip flow and tool approach geometry. The toolholder body is machined from steel for durability in continuous and interrupted cutting applications. Coolant-through capability is not available on this model.
This toolholder is intended for metal-turning operations in production machining environments, including job shops and manufacturing facilities running ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The left-hand configuration means cutting action moves from left to right along the workpiece when viewed from the operator position. It is installed and set up by machinists and CNC turning specialists. The Kenloc clamping system is a common platform in shops already tooled with KENNAMETAL boring and turning systems, and the CN..43. insert geometry is widely used for general-purpose external turning, facing, and profiling.
Designed to accept CN..43. style indexable inserts, specifically compatible with CN.. 432 insert geometry. Verify insert inscribed circle of 0.5 inch when selecting replacement inserts.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the turret pocket and torque all clamping screws to the turret manufacturer specification. When indexing or replacing inserts, use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by KENNAMETAL insert clamping hardware guidelines and inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
