The KENNAMETAL 1096089 is a left-hand MCLN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake machining operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built on the Kenloc series platform, it uses a clamp-and-screw insert holding method to secure CN..43. style inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. The 3/4 x 3/4 inch steel shank provides rigid support in standard turning tool blocks. With a 5-degree lead angle and an overall length of 4.5 inches, this toolholder suits facing, turning, and profiling cuts where negative rake geometry is required for harder workpiece materials or heavy interrupted cuts.
This toolholder is suited for production turning environments including job shops and manufacturing cells running steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The left-hand orientation makes it appropriate for back-turning operations, cutoff approaches from the tailstock side, or setups on gang-tool lathes where tool clearance demands left-hand geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers. Coolant-through capability is not available on this holder, so external coolant supply must be directed at the cutting zone separately.
Designed to accept CN..43. style indexable inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle; complete insert compatibility designation is CN.. 432. Fits standard 3/4 x 3/4 inch square-shank turning tool stations on CNC lathes and conventional turning centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing toolholders or inserts. Seat the shank fully in the tool block and torque the clamping bolts evenly using the machine tool manufacturer's specified procedure. Handle indexable inserts with care — edges are sharp and can cause injury during handling and insert indexing.
