The KENNAMETAL 1096065 is a left-hand MTAN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative-rake external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Part of the Kennametal Kenloc series, it features a -5 degree rake angle and accepts TN..33. series inserts secured by a combination clamp-and-screw holding method. The shank measures 5/8 inches wide by 5/8 inches tall with an overall length of 4.5 inches. The steel construction provides rigidity for consistent insert seating and repeatable tool positioning during finishing and semi-finishing cuts. This toolholder is installed by machinists and CNC programmers working in production and job-shop turning environments.
The 1096065 is suited for external turning applications where left-hand cutting direction is required, such as turning toward the tailstock or facing away from the chuck. The 3-degree lead angle geometry supports chip flow management during longitudinal turning passes. The Kenloc clamping system provides secure insert retention across a range of workpiece materials. This toolholder is appropriate for shops running medium to high production volumes on steel, stainless, and cast materials where indexable tooling with predictable insert change-out is preferred.
Designed for use with TN..33. series indexable turning inserts, specifically compatible with the TN.. 332 insert designation. Fits standard lathe tool blocks and turrets accepting a 5/8-inch square shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is de-energized before mounting or indexing toolholders. Secure the shank fully in the tool block to the back-of-bar-to-cutting-edge dimension of 5/8 inches for proper centerline alignment. Follow the machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for tool block clamping screws and insert clamping hardware.
