The KENNAMETAL 1096040 is a right-hand MSSN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake external turning operations. Built on the Kenloc series platform, it features a 1 inch by 1 inch steel shank and an overall length of 5 inches. The toolholder accepts SN..43. series inserts and uses a clamp and screw holding method to keep the insert securely positioned under cutting loads. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production turning environments where repeatable insert indexing and rigid setup are required.
This toolholder is suited for external turning on CNC and manual lathes in both production shop and job shop settings. The 45-degree lead angle geometry distributes cutting forces effectively across a range of steel and alloy workpieces. The negative rake configuration makes it appropriate for interrupted cuts and harder materials where edge strength is a priority. The 1 inch by 1 inch shank fits standard toolpost and turret pockets sized for that shank dimension.
Designed to accept SN.. 432 series indexable inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Compatible with toolpost and turret systems that accept a 1 inch by 1 inch shank. Catalog reference: MSSNR L164C.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating the toolholder in the turret or toolpost. Verify shank pocket dimensions match the 1 inch by 1 inch shank before tightening. Follow the machine tool manufacturer torque guidelines for toolpost or turret clamping fasteners, and inspect the insert seat and clamp screw condition before inserting a new SN..43. series insert.
