The chuck projects 1.4688 inches from the spindle face, keeping the tap close to the work for improved rigidity. With a nose diameter of 1.06 inches and built-in tension of 0.56 inches and compression of 0.19 inches, it compensates for minor feed rate mismatches between the spindle and the tap, reducing tap breakage and extending tool life.
