The JOHNSON ABRASIVES SC-25 is a 120-grit abrasive sandcloth roll measuring 1.5 inches wide by 25 yards long. Sandcloth combines a woven cloth backing with bonded abrasive grain, giving it greater flexibility and tear resistance than standard sandpaper. The 120-grit rating places it in the fine-abrasive range, suitable for smoothing surfaces, removing light oxidation, and preparing metal or wood for finishing. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians commonly keep rolls like this on hand for deburring pipe ends, cleaning fittings, and prepping copper or steel surfaces before soldering or brazing.
This roll is well suited for light-duty surface preparation tasks in mechanical and plumbing work. Common applications include cleaning the outside diameter of copper pipe and the inside of fittings before flux and solder application, scuffing metal surfaces before adhesive bonding, and removing corrosion from threaded connections. The narrow 1.5-inch width makes it easy to wrap around pipe or work into confined spaces. The 25-yard length provides enough material for ongoing jobsite use without frequent restocking.
Designed as a general-purpose abrasive roll for metal surface preparation, fitting cleanup, and light finishing tasks common in plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical trade work.
Sandcloth rolls require no tools for use beyond a cutting implement to size working strips. When using this product to prep pipe or fittings for soldering, follow applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC for surface prep and flux application requirements. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection when abrading metal surfaces. Dispose of used abrasive material in accordance with local regulations, particularly when working with galvanized or coated metals.
