The JET 321930 is a geared head engine lathe built for heavy-duty metalworking in industrial and machine shop environments. It features a 16-inch swing over the bed and 40-inch center-to-center capacity, making it suitable for turning large-diameter and long-stock workpieces. The spindle uses a D1-8 Camlock mount for fast, accurate chuck and faceplate changes without special tooling. Power comes from a 7.5 HP motor configured for 3-phase operation at 230/460 volts, providing the torque needed for aggressive roughing cuts in steel, cast iron, and other ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers and operators.
This lathe is intended for commercial machine shops, tool rooms, and industrial maintenance facilities requiring a full-size geared head engine lathe. The 16-inch swing accommodates large-diameter turning work, while the 40-inch bed length handles shaft and spindle work that smaller bench lathes cannot. The 3-phase power requirement makes it suited to facilities with established industrial electrical service. It is not intended for single-phase residential installation.
Designed as a standalone geared head engine lathe; compatible with any D1-8 Camlock-mount tooling, chucks, and faceplates conforming to that spindle standard.
Installation requires a qualified electrician to connect 3-phase 230/460-volt service per NEC requirements before the machine is energized. The lathe must be mounted on a level, rigid concrete floor and anchored per the manufacturer specifications to prevent movement during operation. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power before performing any chuck changes, belt adjustments, or internal service work. Lifting and placement of the unit requires appropriate rigging equipment rated for loads well in excess of 5,675 pounds.
