The JET 321498 is a gearhead engine lathe configured with a 2-axis digital readout (DRO) and a taper cutting attachment. Gearhead lathes deliver variable spindle speeds through a gear-driven headstock, providing consistent torque across a wide RPM range without relying on belt-slip drive systems. The included 2-axis DRO gives machinists real-time position readout on the carriage and cross-slide, reducing setup time and improving dimensional repeatability. The taper attachment extends the machine's capability to cut external and internal tapers without offsetting the tailstock. This machine is intended for professional machine shop environments and is installed and operated by journeyman machinists or skilled trade professionals.
The GH-1440ZX-series lathe is suited for precision turning, facing, threading, and taper work in production and job-shop settings. The 14-inch swing and 40-inch between-centers capacity covers a broad range of shaft, bushing, and cylindrical workpiece sizes common in industrial maintenance, toolroom, and light manufacturing applications. The 2-axis DRO and taper attachment configuration makes this model appropriate for shops requiring enhanced productivity over a standard manual lathe setup.
Designed as an OEM-matched configuration for the JET GH-1440ZX lathe platform. Verify electrical service requirements and floor space dimensions against your facility specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified millwright or machine tool technician. The machine must be anchored to a level, reinforced concrete floor per the manufacturer's leveling and anchoring requirements. Electrical connection must comply with applicable NEC requirements and be made by a licensed electrician. Disconnect and lock out all power before performing any service, tooling changes, or adjustments to the DRO or taper attachment components.
