The JERGENS 26704 is a short-body threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty holding applications in precision assemblies and fixtures. It features a 1/4-20 thread with a 5/8-inch thread length, a maximum plunger diameter of 0.119 inches, and a 3/16-inch projection. The steel body and steel nose deliver durability in demanding shop and production environments. An integrated locking element secures the plunger in position once installed, preventing loosening from vibration or repeated cycling. Initial end force is 0.5 pounds, with a final end force of 6 pounds, giving technicians and toolmakers a predictable spring range for light detent and positioning work.
This plunger is suited for use in jigs, fixtures, machine tooling, and assembly equipment where repeatable part positioning or detent action is required. The short plunger length type and compact 5/8-inch body length make it a practical choice when space is limited in tooling plates or manifold blocks. It installs directly into a tapped 1/4-20 hole in metal or engineered plastic components. Machinists, tool and die makers, and mechanical assemblers routinely use this type of hardware in both prototype and production settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct addition for assemblies and fixtures requiring a short-body 1/4-20 threaded spring plunger with a locking element.
Installation requires a properly tapped 1/4-20 through or blind hole in the mating component. De-energize or lock out any machine or assembly before servicing spring plungers in active fixtures. Use an appropriate hex key or spanner tool as specified by the manufacturer to engage the drive feature without damaging the plunger body. The locking element should be engaged after final positioning to prevent loosening during operation.
