The JARD-81040 is a 40-amp, 250-volt time delay cartridge fuse designed to protect electrical circuits from overcurrent damage. Its time delay characteristic allows harmless inrush currents -- such as motor start-up surges -- to pass without nuisance blowing, while still opening quickly under sustained fault conditions. Rated at UL Class RK-5, it meets recognized performance standards for interrupt capacity and time delay response. At 3 inches in length, it fits standard cartridge fuse holders used in residential and light commercial electrical panels and disconnect boxes. Licensed electricians and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
This fuse is suited for use in fusible disconnect switches, load centers, and equipment service entrance boxes where a 40-amp time delay cartridge fuse is specified. It is commonly installed on the line side of HVAC equipment such as condensing units and air handlers, as well as in motor branch circuits that require temporary overcurrent tolerance during startup. Its 250-volt rating covers the majority of single-phase residential and light commercial applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement cartridge fuse for use in standard Class RK-5 fusible disconnect switches and fuse holders rated for 40-amp, 250-volt service.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with NEC requirements for overcurrent protection. Always de-energize and lock out the circuit before removing or installing a fuse. Use an appropriately rated fuse puller when removing the cartridge from a live-adjacent holder. Verify that the replacement fuse amperage and voltage rating match the equipment nameplate and disconnect label exactly before restoring power.
