The JACOBS 30487DN is a drill chuck drift designed to remove Morse taper tooling from drill press spindles, lathes, milling machines, and similar machine tool equipment. A drift is struck with a hammer or mallet to break the self-holding taper lock between a chuck or tool and its spindle socket. This model is compatible with both 4MT and 5MT Morse taper applications, covering the larger taper sizes commonly found in floor-model drill presses and industrial lathes. The part weighs 1 pound and is sold individually. It is a standard hand tool used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians in shop environments.
The 30487DN is suited for use in machine shops, production facilities, and maintenance departments where 4MT and 5MT Morse taper arbors, drill chucks, and tooling holders require routine removal and changeover. It is appropriate for both manual and CNC-adjacent setups where taper tooling is changed frequently. Technicians working on heavy floor-model equipment with No. 4 or No. 5 Morse taper spindles will find this drift covers the standard removal task without needing a dedicated arbor press for routine chuck swaps.
Designed for use with 4MT Taper and 5MT Taper Morse taper spindles and tooling holders.
A machinst or maintenance technician installs this drift by inserting it into the drift slot of the machine spindle and striking it with a hammer or dead-blow mallet to eject the taper-mounted tooling. Always power down and lock out the machine before performing any chuck or tooling change. Do not use a drift on a spinning or unsecured spindle. Follow applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures before service.
