The JACKSON SAFETY 14986 is a passive series welding helmet designed for basic arc welding protection in residential, commercial, and light industrial environments. The HSL-2 features a narrow shell profile that fits into tight work spaces, and an extended front section that adds throat protection against sparks, slag, and fumes. The helmet ships with a 2 inches x 4.25 inches shade 10 polycarbonate filter plate installed. A padded headstrap and lift-front design allow the welder to raise the lens for inspection without removing the helmet. Licensed welders, fabricators, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers and end users.
The HSL-2 is suited for MIG, stick, and flux-core welding applications where a fixed-shade passive lens is acceptable. The lift-front configuration makes it practical for repetitive tack-weld work where the operator needs to alternate quickly between welding and visual inspection. The narrow shell geometry also reduces interference when working inside enclosures, pipe chases, or structural assemblies with limited clearance. Hard hat compatibility is available through an optional adapter, making it a viable option for job sites that require head protection alongside welding operations.
Adaptable to hard hats using the 187-S adapter (product number 15968). Designed as a standalone passive welding helmet for standard arc welding applications.
Fit and adjust the padded headstrap before beginning any welding operation to ensure a secure, stable fit. Verify that the shade 10 filter plate is properly seated and undamaged prior to use. When installing the optional hard hat adapter, follow the adapter manufacturer's instructions and confirm the assembly is locked before use. Inspection, fitting, and lens replacement should be performed by or under the guidance of a qualified safety professional in accordance with ANSI Z87.1 requirements.
