The JACKSON SAFETY 14797 is a mechanical pipe layout tool designed for tradespeople who need to mark precise cut lines on pipe and structural steel without manual calculation. The tool features an X-shaped frame, a calibrated angle protractor, a triple-jointed marked arm, and a bracket that work together to map contour lines quickly and accurately. It includes a soapstone crayon for marking and is suited for plumbers, pipefitters, welders, and ironworkers handling layout tasks on the job site or in a fabrication shop.
The 14797 is used to lay out structural steel, pipes, and joints for tees, wyes, crosses, and elbows of any type or angle. It eliminates the need for complex trigonometric formulas and removes the cut-and-test method from the workflow, reducing material waste and rework. The tool works in right-side-up or upside-down positions, making it practical across a range of workpiece orientations and install scenarios.
Designed for use on round pipe from 1.5 to 18 inches in diameter and structural steel members up to 18 inches, in right-side-up or upside-down working positions.
Used by plumbers, pipefitters, welders, and structural ironworkers during layout and fabrication. Secure the workpiece before use to prevent movement during marking. Follow applicable codes such as IFGC or IPC when laying out pipe joints for gas or plumbing systems. No power source is required.
