The ISCAR 6837456 is a solid carbide turning insert from the Isoturn series, designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC908 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C), a positive rake geometry, and an F1P chip breaker for controlled chip evacuation. Corner radius is 0.20 mm (0.0079 inches). Relief angle is 7 degrees with a Clearance Code C and Tolerance Code G. Licensed HVAC, machining, and tooling professionals install this insert in standard CCGT-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece material applications, with a Primary Workpiece Material Code covering H, K, M, P, and S material groups per ISO classification. It is appropriate for light to moderate turning passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.50 mm (0.0200 inches). The F1P chip breaker geometry supports finishing and semi-finishing operations where chip control and surface finish consistency are priorities. Typical applications include tight-tolerance turning on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in CCGT-style turning toolholders that accept 04T1 insert size geometry with a 2.30 mm (0.0910 inch) hole diameter. Verify toolholder clamp style and seat dimensions before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state. Seat and clamp surfaces should be clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within the same toolholder setup without verifying compatibility with the toolholder documentation.
