The ISCAR 6498201 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, carrying the GIMY840FY designation with an IC908 manufacturer grade. It features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering heat and wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 8 mm and the maximum depth of cut is 4 mm. A full corner radius of 0.1575 inches and a positive 7-degree rake angle contribute to controlled chip flow. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and turning center operators performing external and face grooving operations on production or job-shop lathes.
The GIMY840FY IC908 insert is designed for grooving and parting operations on universal workpiece materials, covering material grade classifications C1, C2, C6, and C7, with primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. It is suited for single-end use in Cut-Grip toolholders that accept the GIMY 840 insert style. Typical applications include external grooving, recessing, and face grooving on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys in both production turning and maintenance machining environments. The FY chip breaker geometry promotes positive chip control across this range of materials.
Designed for use in Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIMY 840 insert style. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by ISCAR material grade classifications C1, C2, C6, and C7.
This insert is seated and clamped by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping procedures for the Cut-Grip system. Always index or replace inserts with the machine fully stopped and locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and prevent edge damage. Single-end inserts are not reversible and should be disposed of after the cutting edge is worn.
