The ISCAR 6491140 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC907 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating, which supports extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a cutting width of 0.315 inches (8.00 mm), and a full corner radius of 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm). A positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces, and the Y-type chip breaker geometry promotes chip control in grooving applications. Installed via clamp-style insert holding, it is suited for single-end use.
This insert is intended for use in Cut-Grip toolholders and blade systems that accept the GIPY800400Y insert style and 800400 size code. It is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S — meaning it handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials within recommended cutting parameter ranges. Typical applications include groove turning, face grooving, and parting on both light-duty and production turning operations. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip system toolholders and blades that accept the GIPY insert style with an 800400 size code. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as stated by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician on a powered-down machine with all axes at a safe position. Seat the insert fully in the clamp pocket and verify the clamp screw torque follows the toolholder manufacturer specification for the given blade series. Inspect the insert seating surface for chips or debris before clamping, as contamination can cause micro-movement under cutting load. Replace the insert at the first sign of flank wear, chipping, or surface finish degradation on the workpiece.
