The ISCAR 6405124 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC808 grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, which supports high cutting speeds across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 0.188 inch (4.78 mm) cutting width, a double-ended design for extended tool life per insert, and a positive rake angle of 8 degrees. The P chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during grooving. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders as a consumable cutting element.
This insert is suited for use in precision turning and grooving applications in both production and job-shop environments. The IC808 grade is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, which include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened materials, and high-temperature alloys. The clamp-style insert holding method provides secure seating during interrupted cuts and high-feed operations. Its double-ended configuration makes it a cost-effective option in high-volume turning cells where insert changeover frequency is a factor.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIPI insert style with size code 478055. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against the insert dimensions before installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified for the toolholder to secure the clamp without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert, and verify tool offset data in the CNC control after any insert change.
