The ISCAR 6405122 is a solid carbide double-end grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running under the GIP insert style in the Cut-Grip series, it carries an IC830 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that provides hardness and oxidation resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm (0.0945 inches). A 0.60 mm (0.0236 inches) corner radius and a 7-degree rake angle work together to control chip formation during interrupted or continuous groove passes. Overall length is 15.30 mm (0.6024 inches).
This insert is suited for grooving, profiling, and cutoff work on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in production and job-shop turning environments. The E chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip evacuation in medium to finish grooving passes. Because this is a double-end insert, both cutting edges can be indexed, extending usable tool life per insert. It is held in the toolholder by a clamp-style insert holding method, which is standard across the Cut-Grip system. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in high-volume turning or precision component manufacturing.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style toolholders that accept GIP-style grooving inserts with a 4.00 mm cutting width and clamp holding method.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Before indexing or replacing the insert, power down and lock out the machine spindle per facility lockout-tagout procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamp surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque the clamp fastener to the toolholder manufacturer specification; do not over-tighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to cracking under uneven clamping force.
