The ISCAR 6405073 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIF400040E geometry in the IC830 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating that resists heat and wear during demanding cuts. The insert has a 4 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm, and a positive rake angle of 7 degrees to promote clean chip evacuation. A double-end configuration extends usable tool life. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments will find this insert suited to high-productivity grooving cycles.
This insert is intended for grooving, parting, and profiling applications on superalloys and titanium workpieces, making it well matched to aerospace, medical, and energy-sector component machining. The Cut-Grip series is engineered for rigid clamping in compatible ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholders, providing secure seating under the interrupted and continuous cutting loads common in these materials. The insert suits both roughing and finishing passes within its depth-of-cut range of 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIF insert style with a 400040 insert size code. Primary workpiece material designations are M, P, and S, corresponding to superalloys, steel, and titanium under ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Seat the insert fully into the Cut-Grip clamp pocket and verify the clamping screw torque matches the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert edge and clamp condition at each tool change. Carbide inserts are brittle — avoid impact or dropping during handling.
