The ISCAR 6404409 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the MIFR insert style in the Min-Cut series, it carries an IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 2 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 9 mm, and a 1 mm corner radius. It is a single-end, neutral-hand insert held by clamp or screw, and conforms to ISO 13399 standards. Machinists and tooling technicians install this insert in compatible Min-Cut grooving toolholders on production turning equipment.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S. That range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is suited for both light production grooving and applications requiring consistent groove geometry in mixed-material shops. The Min-Cut series is commonly used in high-volume turning environments where repeatability and insert indexability are priorities. Overall insert length is 25.10 mm (approximately 0.988 inches), and the insert size code is 10200100.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Min-Cut series grooving and parting toolholders that accept the MIFR insert style with size code 10200100. Confirm toolholder insert pocket geometry before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine at a full stop and all drives disabled. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the holding screw or clamp per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Never attempt to index or remove inserts while the spindle is in motion.
