The ISCAR 6404352 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Cut-Grip series specification, it carries the IC808 grade designation — a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating. The insert delivers a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.512 inches (13 mm). The self-grip holding method secures the insert directly in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware. A positive 7-degree rake angle and the F chip breaker geometry promote controlled chip evacuation across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for universal material applications, covering material codes H, K, M, P, and S — meaning it performs across hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Typical use cases include groove turning, parting-off, and face grooving where consistent chip control and dimensional accuracy are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it interchangeable in both right- and left-hand tool stations. Machinists running medium to high production volumes on precision turned components are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIF insert style with size code 635050. Verify toolholder seat geometry against the ISO code GIF 6.35-0.50 before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, energy-isolated state. Seat the insert firmly into the Cut-Grip toolholder pocket using the self-grip mechanism; inspect the seating surface for chips or contamination before closing. Do not use the insert beyond its rated maximum depth of cut of 0.512 inches. Always verify insert orientation and grade selection against the workpiece material and cutting parameters before resuming production.
