The ISCAR 6404310 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIMF406F designation and IC8250 manufacturer grade. It features a 4.00 mm (0.1575 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm (0.0945 inch), making it well suited for precise grooving operations on ferrous and stainless steel workpieces. The insert uses a positive rake geometry with a 7-degree rake angle and a chip breaker designation of F, promoting controlled chip evacuation. An Al2O3 coating applied via PVD process enhances wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed cutting. The insert is held in place by a clamp-style holding method and is designed for single-end use. This part is installed by CNC machinists and tool-room technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for external and internal grooving applications on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces. It belongs to the Cut-Grip series, a system designed for rigid, secure insert clamping during grooving and parting operations. The neutral hand orientation allows for straight grooving passes. Typical applications include groove turning on CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent depth of cut in the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm range is required. The multi-use tool designation indicates the insert is compatible with multi-functional Cut-Grip toolholders capable of grooving, turning, and parting within a single setup.

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before tightening the clamp to avoid rocking or misalignment. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate depth-of-cut repeatability.
