The ISCAR 6404265 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and cut-off operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under the Cut-Grip series, it carries the GIPI insert style with a 2.39 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 6.40 mm. The insert is coated via PVD with an AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer finish under the IC808 grade, which is engineered for high cutting speeds and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The double-ended design and positive rake angle of 8 degrees give machinists added value per insert and improved chip control in demanding cuts. This insert is installed and serviced by machining professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The ISCAR 6404265 is suited for universal application across multiple material groups, including ISO P (steel), M (stainless), K (cast iron), H (hardened materials), and S (superalloys). Its double-end configuration makes it a practical choice for high-volume turning operations where tool change frequency affects cycle time. The clamp-style insert holding method provides rigid, repeatable seating in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders, making it appropriate for both roughing groove passes and finish-depth operations on general-purpose turning centers.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIPI insert style and 239015 insert size code. Compatible with workpiece material groups ISO P, M, K, H, and S as designated by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be brought to a full stop and the turret or toolpost locked out before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping key or wrench specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to ensure proper clamp torque and seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before installation to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure.
