The ISCAR 6404250 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the manufacturer designation GIPI270010P in grade IC808. It is a double-ended, neutral-hand insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 0.1063-inch (2.70 mm) cutting width and a 0.0039-inch (0.10 mm) corner radius, paired with a positive rake geometry at an 8-degree rake angle. A PVD-applied multilayer coating combining AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN delivers heat resistance and wear protection across a wide range of workpiece materials. Installation requires a compatible Cut-Grip clamping toolholder.
This insert is intended for universal material applications, rated for ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S — covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened materials, and superalloys. It fits into the Cut-Grip insert series toolholding system and is suited for grooving, parting, and face grooving in both production and job-shop turning environments. The P chip breaker geometry helps manage chip flow during continuous cuts in medium to finishing depth-of-cut ranges. The double-end design maximizes insert utilization per seat.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIPI insert style and size code 270010. Confirm toolholder designation against ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholder compatibility charts before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Verify insert seating and clamp contact before resuming cutting operations. Follow shop-standard lockout/tagout procedures throughout the tool-change process.
