The ISCAR 6404243 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Cut-Grip series standard, this insert carries the GIP157015 insert style designation with a 1.57 mm (0.0620 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.70 mm (0.1063 inch). The IC808 grade substrate features a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating for wear resistance and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The double-ended design delivers two usable cutting edges per insert, improving cost-per-edge economics in production environments. Installed with a clamp-style insert holder, it suits machinists and tooling technicians working in job shops and production turning operations.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups P (steels), M (stainless steels), K (cast irons), H (hardened materials), and S (superalloys and titanium). The positive rake geometry at 7 degrees reduces cutting forces and is well suited to finish grooving, O-ring groove cutting, and snap-ring groove applications. The double-end configuration makes it a practical choice for high-volume turning cells where per-piece tooling cost is a critical variable. The overall insert length is 15.30 mm (0.6024 inch), and the corner radius measures 0.15 mm (0.0060 inch), supporting clean, sharp groove shoulders.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style toolholders accepting the GIP insert style and 157015 insert size designation. Compatible with ISO material groups P, M, K, H, and S workpiece materials as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes provided by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified clamp screw and torque procedure for the Cut-Grip toolholder to ensure the insert seats fully against the pocket locating surfaces. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installation, as a contaminated pocket can cause insert shifting and premature edge failure.
