The ISCAR 6404045 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the MIFR insert style designation with an IC908 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The IC908 submicron carbide grade delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a cutting width of 2.21 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 5.69 mm, it handles moderate to deep grooving applications with consistent dimensional accuracy. The insert mounts via screw-clamp and is a single-end design within ISCARs Min-Cut series.
This insert is suited for universal material groups, including ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering steel, stainless, cast iron, hardened materials, and heat-resistant alloys. It is commonly installed in light to medium grooving operations on production turning equipment in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. The neutral hand orientation and 0.20 mm corner radius make it appropriate for straight grooving where a full-radius profile is not required. Machinists and CNC operators working with ISCAR Min-Cut toolholders compatible with the MIFR insert style will find this a direct fit.
Designed for use with ISCAR Min-Cut series toolholders that accept the MIFR insert style in size 8220020. Compatible with workpiece material ISO codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturers specified screw-clamp torque — refer to the ISCAR toolholder documentation for the applicable fastener specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper surface contact and runout control.
