The ISCAR 6403351 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GEPI185010 insert style with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and IC908 grade submicron carbide substrate, it delivers consistent wear resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features a 1.85 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.49 mm, making it well suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles. Machining professionals install this insert into compatible Cut-Grip toolholders as part of a reliable, self-gripping insert retention system.
This insert is intended for use across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous metals, as indicated by its universal material grade classification covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. It is applicable in both high-production and job-shop turning environments where repeatable groove geometry and extended tool life are required. The double-ended design allows the insert to be indexed, providing two usable cutting edges per insert and reducing per-edge tooling cost on the shop floor.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GEPI-style inserts with insert size code 185010. Compatible with universal workpiece materials across ISO groups H, K, M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the insert fully into the Cut-Grip pocket and verify the self-grip retention is engaged before resuming machine operation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris prior to indexing or replacing the insert. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications and relevant ISO tooling standards when setting tool offsets and depth-of-cut parameters.
