The ISCAR 6403345 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GEPI157015 insert style designation within the Cut-Grip self-gripping series and is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The IC908 submicron carbide grade delivers a cutting width of 1.57 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 2.01 mm. A positive rake angle of 8 degrees and a 0.15 mm corner radius give the insert clean, consistent chip formation. Machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders as a double-ended insert, extending tool life between index changes.
This insert is suited for universal application across multiple workpiece material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It fits production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and tight tolerances are required. The double-end design allows the operator to index to a fresh cutting edge without changing the insert body, reducing downtime in high-volume turning operations.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GEPI insert style. The ISO designation for this insert is GEPI 1.57-0.15. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation to confirm proper seating and clamping engagement.
Installation is performed by machining technicians familiar with CNC lathe tooling and indexable insert systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating any insert. Use the appropriate insert seating tool or torx key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not use substitute tools that could damage the self-grip pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before installing a fresh cutting edge to ensure full contact and accurate tool height.
