The ISCAR 6403180 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN coating for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a 3.00 mm cutting width (0.1181 inches) with a neutral lead angle and neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for straight-in grooving and cutoff applications. The self-grip holding method secures the insert positively in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range covers carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, nonferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. The GIM 3C insert style with C chipbreaker geometry is suited for grooving and parting on both small- and medium-diameter barstock. Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to seat the insert without cracking the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate for this insert size.
