The ISCAR 6402640 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the ChamGroove series, designed for precise external grooving and parting operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this right-hand insert features a 2.22 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.30 mm. The IC528 grade substrate receives a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating, delivering high wear resistance and edge stability when cutting heat-resistant superalloys and titanium. The screw-clamping holding method provides secure, repeatable seating in compatible ChamGroove toolholders. Machinists and CNC turning specialists working in aerospace, medical, and high-performance manufacturing environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving and profiling operations where tight dimensional control is required in difficult-to-machine materials. Its primary workpiece material designations cover superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M, P, and S), making it appropriate for aerospace and medical component machining. The single-ended insert design and 0.10 mm corner radius support controlled chip flow and surface finish in shallow to moderate-depth groove profiles within the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use with ISCAR ChamGroove series toolholders accepting the GIQR insert style and size code 11222010. Confirm toolholder bore and clamping screw compatibility before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down the machine and engage all safety locks before accessing the turret or toolholder. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the recommended engagement without over-torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and runout control.
