The ISCAR 6402293 is a single-end solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIM insert style with a 3.00 mm cutting width (0.1181 inches) and a 4-degree left-hand lead angle, making it suited for controlled chip evacuation on left-hand tool setups. The IC-354 grade features a PVD-applied TiN/TiCN coating over a P40 material grade substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge toughness. A self-grip holding method secures the insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production turning environments.
This insert is engineered for grooving and parting applications on stainless steel and steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. The left-hand orientation suits setups where the tool approaches from the left or where specific chip-flow direction is required. The J chipbreaker geometry promotes reliable chip control at the 3.00 mm width. With a corner radius of 0.22 mm (0.0087 inches) and a 7-degree relief angle, it maintains clearance and minimizes rubbing on narrow groove walls. Typical use is in high-volume production turning on stainless and carbon steel components.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIM-style self-grip inserts. Compatible with left-hand insert seating configurations. Verify toolholder insert pocket designation before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. The self-grip design requires correct pocket alignment — do not force the insert or use impact tools to seat it. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and secure grip during cutting.
