The ISCAR 6402136 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under the Cut-Grip series, this neutral-hand insert carries the GIM22J style designation with an IC354 grade coating. The TiCN PVD finish provides enhanced wear resistance and surface hardness, making it well-suited for demanding cutting conditions. The insert delivers a 0.0866-inch (2.20 mm) cutting width with a 7-degree positive rake angle, reducing cutting forces and improving chip flow. A corner radius of 0.0067 inches (0.17 mm) supports controlled edge engagement. Machining professionals working with stainless steel and steel workpieces will find this insert a reliable consumable for production grooving and parting applications.
This insert is intended for use in CNC turning and grooving applications where consistent groove width and surface finish are required. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P), covering a broad range of common turning shop applications. The IC354 grade with PVD-applied TiCN coating targets materials that generate heat and abrasive wear at the cutting edge. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom technicians running production or prototype grooving work on lathes equipped with compatible Cut-Grip toolholders. The single-end configuration provides one cutting edge per insert.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders compatible with GIM-style inserts in size 22J. Refer to ISCAR toolholder documentation to confirm seating and clamping compatibility before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or hex key to seat and torque the insert clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Do not use damaged or improperly seated inserts, as this can cause premature failure or workpiece damage.
