The ISCAR 6401924 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GDMW insert style with a size code of 24, it features a 2.4 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 18 mm. The IC20N grade is uncoated solid carbide, suited for dry or minimally lubricated cutting conditions. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a positive 7-degree rake angle, and a W-style chip breaker geometry. It is a double-ended insert, providing two usable cutting edges per unit. Installation requires a compatible Cut-Grip clamping-style toolholder. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments are the primary users.
This insert is engineered for grooving and parting applications where dimensional accuracy and chip control are critical. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO material code M) and carbon and alloy steel (ISO material code P). The W chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in these materials. The double-ended design extends insert utility across multiple tool changes. With an overall length of 20 mm and a corner radius of 0.18 mm, it is suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles in medium-depth applications, with a rated depth-of-cut range of 10 mm to 20 mm.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept GDMW-style inserts with a size code of 24. Confirmed compatible with stainless steel and steel workpiece materials per ISO material codes M and P. Conforms to ISO 13399 cutting tool data representation standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping screw and torque driver specified for Cut-Grip toolholders to secure the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
