The ISCAR 6401816 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIDA8040 profile with an IC20 uncoated grade, this double-ended insert delivers an 8 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4 mm. The full-radius geometry with a 0.1575-inch corner radius and a 7-degree positive rake angle reduce cutting forces and promote clean chip evacuation. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving operations across a broad range of workpiece materials, reflecting its universal primary material classification covering material codes H, K, M, N, and S. Typical applications include external grooving, face grooving, and parting on ferrous metals, nonferrous alloys, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys. The neutral hand orientation makes it appropriate for standard toolholder setups. The Cut-Grip series is commonly found in high-volume turning operations where consistent groove geometry and tool life are critical.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIDA insert style and 8040 insert size. The MSC/Manufacturer reference for this insert is GIDA 8.00-4.00R. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation to confirm proper seating and clamping engagement.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all guards in place per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Reference ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholder documentation for correct insert orientation and clamping sequence.
