The ISCAR 6400818 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the GIP400080E designation with an IC20 uncoated carbide grade, a 4.00 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm. The IC20 grade is suited for universal workpiece materials across multiple ISO material groups. A 0.80 mm corner radius and a positive rake angle of 7 degrees contribute to controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is intended for grooving, profiling, and parting applications on a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant superalloys. The neutral hand orientation allows use on standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders configured for Cut-Grip system inserts. Double-end design provides two usable cutting edges per insert, extending service life. It is suited for both light-duty and medium-duty turning operations in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIP insert style with a 400080 insert size designation. Compatible with workpiece materials across ISO groups H, K, M, N, and S. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping requirements before installation.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. Power down the machine and engage all safety locks before changing inserts. Use appropriate insert-seating tools and verify the insert is fully seated and clamped per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming operation. Do not exceed the published maximum depth of cut for this insert designation.
