The ISCAR 6291287 is a solid carbide double-ended grooving insert in the Heli-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GRIP5005Y insert style with a manufacturer grade of IC908 and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that supports high-speed cutting in a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 5 mm (0.1969 inches) and the maximum depth of cut is 3 mm (0.1181 inches). The neutral hand orientation and positive rake angle of 7 degrees make this insert suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholders in the Heli-Grip system.
This insert is intended for use on metalcutting lathes and multi-tasking turning centers in production and job-shop environments. The IC908 grade with TiAlN coating is rated for universal workpiece material applications, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That broad material compatibility makes it a practical stocking choice for shops running steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys. Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the ISCAR Heli-Grip toolholder manufacturer — do not estimate clamping torque by feel. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. This insert should be installed and indexed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician.
