The ISCAR 6200454 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Heli-Grip series, designed for external grooving, parting, and groove-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries grade IC807 with a PVD-applied TiAlN and Titanium Nitride finish, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a 4.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm, making it suited for shallow-to-medium groove profiles. The double-ended configuration extends usable tool life per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers and users.
This insert fits grooving applications across universal workpiece materials, including steels, stainless, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous metals, as indicated by the ISO material group codes H, K, M, P, and S. It is sized for use in Heli-Grip series toolholders that accept the GRIP 4004 insert size. Typical applications include external groove turning, part-off operations, and face grooving where a 4 mm groove width is required. The Y-style chip breaker geometry promotes chip control in medium-depth grooving passes.
Designed for use with Heli-Grip series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the GRIP 4004 insert size. Compatible workpiece material groups include P, M, K, H, and S per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all stored energy released before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping mechanism to the correct seating force. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
