The ISCAR 6200425 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Heli-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GRIP6005Y insert style designation and is manufactured to the IC5010 grade, featuring a CVD-applied aluminum oxide (Al2O3) coating optimized for hard and abrasive workpiece materials, particularly cast iron. The insert delivers a 6.00 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 3.60 mm and a 0.50 mm corner radius. Its double-ended design extends usable tool life. This is a drop-in replacement insert intended for machinists and toolroom technicians running Heli-Grip compatible toolholders.
This insert is primarily suited for grooving cast iron and similar K-category workpiece materials in production turning environments. The IC5010 grade with Al2O3 CVD coating handles the elevated cutting temperatures and abrasive wear typical of cast iron at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight-in grooving applications. The Heli-Grip series is a common platform in production shops running gang-tool or turret-style lathes where consistent depth control is critical. The chip breaker geometry designated Y supports reliable chip control through the grooving cycle.
Designed for use with ISCAR Heli-Grip series toolholders that accept GRIP-style inserts with a 6005 insert size designation. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
This insert is installed and serviced by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down the machine and engage all locks before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper registration and cutting geometry.
