The ISCAR 6200228 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the HGPL3002Y geometry and IC908 manufacturer grade. It features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a carbide substrate, designed for consistent performance in turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. The insert delivers a 3.00 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm, making it well-suited for precision groove profiles in production environments. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees reduces cutting forces, while the Y chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert as part of the ISCAR Heliface tooling system.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It is appropriate for both internal and external grooving applications where tight groove widths and controlled depth are required. The neutral hand orientation supports straight plunge grooving. The clamp-style insert holding method is standard for the Heliface series toolholders it pairs with in shop floor and production turning setups.
Designed for use with ISCAR Heliface series toolholders that accept the HGPL3002Y insert style. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Verify toolholder seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing any insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamp key for the Heliface clamping system; do not substitute unrated tools. Inspect the toolholder seat for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
