The ISCAR 6099876 is a single-end carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GFN5J insert style with an IC354 PVD-coated solid carbide grade, making it well-suited for cutting stainless steel and steel workpieces. The cutting width measures 5.02 mm (0.1976 inches), the lead angle is neutral at 0 degrees, and the relief angle is 7 degrees. A corner radius of 0.25 mm (0.0098 inches) is built into the J chipbreaker geometry. This insert seats into Self-Grip style toolholders and is installed by machining professionals in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert is used in grooving and parting applications on ferrous workpieces, specifically stainless steel (ISO material code M) and general steel (ISO material code P). The Self-Grip clamping method provides secure insert retention without additional fasteners, making it suitable for high-feed turning operations. The J chipbreaker geometry is configured for effective chip control across a range of depths of cut typical in cutoff and groove-turning work. The insert conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards, which simplifies integration with CAM software and digital tooling libraries.
Designed for use with ISCAR Self-Grip series toolholders accepting insert seat size 5, GFN insert style. Compatible with turning and cutoff applications on stainless steel and steel workpieces as indicated by ISO material codes M and P.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, the machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. The Self-Grip holder retains the insert through clamping force alone — verify the insert is fully seated before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris that could affect seating accuracy and cutting-edge alignment.
