The ISCAR 6091664 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the GTN-5 insert style with a size code of 5, it features a 5.1 mm (0.2008 inch) cutting width and a neutral lead angle for straight, on-center cutoff work. The IC354 grade substrate is finished with a PVD coating, providing wear resistance and edge stability when cutting a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The Self-Grip series clamping method holds the insert securely without additional hardware, reducing setup time. A 7-degree relief angle and a 0.28 mm corner radius complete the geometry profile.
This insert is suited for production turning environments where consistent, repeatable cutoff and grooving performance is required. It is a single-end insert, meaning each insert provides one cutting edge. Typical applications include parting bar stock, grooving shafts, and finishing shoulders on turned components in job shop and production machining settings. The insert is sold individually, but the minimum order quantity is 10 pieces per order.
Designed for use in ISCAR Self-Grip series toolholders accepting GTN-5 style inserts with an insert seat size of 5. Verify toolholder insert seat size and clamping system compatibility before ordering.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the cutting parameters specified in the ISCAR IC354 grade application guide for the workpiece material being machined. Inspect the insert edge condition regularly and replace at the first sign of chipping or excessive flank wear to avoid workpiece damage or toolholder seat erosion.
