The ISCAR 6011389 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert in the Tang-Grip series, designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC830 manufacturer grade with a PVD coating, giving it strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 4 mm cutting width (0.1575 inches), a neutral lead angle, and a J-style chipbreaker configuration. With a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.24 mm (0.0094 inch) corner radius, this insert is engineered for consistent, repeatable cuts on demanding workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert using a clamp-style holding method for rigid, chatter-resistant clamping.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications where tight tolerances and clean surface finishes are required. Its primary workpiece material ratings cover superalloys, steels, and stainless steels (ISO material codes M, P, and S), making it applicable across aerospace, energy, and general machining environments. The single-end, neutral-hand design fits standard Tang-Grip toolholders configured for 4 mm inserts. It is a multi-use insert compatible with both external grooving and cutoff operations on medium to high-production turning setups.
Designed for use in Tang-Grip series clamp-style toolholders accepting 4 mm neutral-hand cutoff and grooving inserts. Rated for superalloy, steel, and stainless steel workpiece materials per ISO material codes M, P, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Always bring the machine to a full stop and lock out the spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the Tang-Grip toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips before clamping the insert. Do not exceed the clamping force recommended by the toolholder manufacturer, as over-torquing the clamp can damage the insert seating surface.
