The ISCAR 6004465 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert in the Tang-Grip series, designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the TAGN1.4J designation, indicating a neutral lead angle, a 1.40 mm (0.0551 inch) cutting width, and a J-style chipbreaker geometry. The IC808 grade combines a PVD-applied multilayer coating of TiAlN, AlTiN, and TiN over a tough carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians, this insert is a direct drop-in for compatible Tang-Grip toolholders without secondary modification.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications in both light and production turning environments. The neutral lead angle and J chipbreaker make it effective on materials classified under ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The 0.16 mm corner radius and 7-degree relief angle support clean chip evacuation and controlled cutting action at the parting groove. Typical applications include part-off operations, shallow grooving, and recessing on bar-fed and chucked workpieces in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with ISCAR Tang-Grip series toolholders that accept the TAG insert style with a 1.4 size code. Compatible workpiece material groups include ISO H, K, M, P, and S. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Always index or replace the insert with the machine in the stopped and locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the Tang-Grip pocket before applying clamping force; do not force a misaligned insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or damage before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and prevent premature edge failure.
