The ISCAR 6003107 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the PentaCut series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the PENTA24N120J designation with IC908 grade, it features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a submicron carbide substrate for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight-in grooving applications. The cutting width is 1.19 mm (0.0470 inches) and the maximum depth of cut reaches 2.01 mm (0.0790 inches). Machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The J chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow in grooving applications where chip evacuation is critical to surface finish and tool stability. It is appropriate for both production turning environments and job-shop applications where versatile grooving capability across multiple material types is required.
Designed for use in ISCAR PentaCut series toolholders that accept the PENTA 24N120 insert size. Compatible workpiece material groups per ISO designation: H, K, M, P, and S. Refer to the ISCAR PentaCut toolholder catalog to confirm seat geometry and screw compatibility before installation.
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle stopped and all axes at a safe home position. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified for the clamping screw to avoid stripping the screw head or damaging the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Do not force the insert into the pocket; proper seating requires only light screw torque as directed by the toolholder manufacturer.
