The ISCAR 6002888 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert in the GFN 12W IC328 configuration, designed for single-end use in demanding parting and grooving operations. The insert features a 0.500-inch (12.70 mm) cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a PVD coating that extends tool life in high-heat, high-stress cuts. With a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.0335-inch (0.85 mm) corner radius, it maintains edge integrity on difficult-to-machine workpieces. It belongs to the Self-Grip series, using a clamp-style holding method for positive insert retention during interrupted or continuous grooving cuts.
This insert is rated for superalloy machining as its primary workpiece material, making it well suited for aerospace, power generation, and industrial applications where nickel-based alloys, titanium, and stainless-grade materials are common. The IC328 grade carries material grade classifications C2, C3, C5, and C6 under ISO 13399, covering a range of ferrous and non-ferrous applications. It is used in production turning centers and manual lathes wherever the Self-Grip toolholder system is already in service. The W chipbreaker geometry promotes chip control across a variety of feed rates and depths of cut.
Designed for use with ISCAR Self-Grip series toolholders that accept GFN style inserts with an insert size code of 12. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before ordering to confirm proper seating and clamping engagement.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, de-energized state and all spindle motion confirmed stopped. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamp — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's setup sheet for recommended overhang, clamping torque range, and runout tolerances.
